The two previous seasons racing in the Esso British Touring Car Championship had been tight and competitive.
In 1991 the championship changed to an overall 2-litre formula, the result produced some of the best action ever seen on the British racing circuits.
As the excitement mounted crowds approaching 30,000 were commonplace and drivers like Will hoy, John Cleland, Andy Rouse and Jonathan Palmer responeded with some stirring drives.
